Dear Parents,

This weeks Tic-Tac-Toe Literacy Assignments will be due Monday March 2, 2015 .Black history projects are also due the week of  March 2, 2015. All Math Study Links (7.3- 7.9) will be due Friday, February 27, 2015. Please make certain students have all school supplies. Many students are not bringing in pencils, markers/colors pencils or scissors. These are supplies we use on a weekly basis.  We also need boxes of Kleenex and lined notebook paper. Please donate.

Social Studies Extra Credit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tuesday February 24, 2015 is Election Day! Students may bring in  voter receipts (limit 2 per student) this will be one of many ways to earn extra credit for Social Studies.

Weekly Objectives

Math- 4th graders will continue with the world of FRACTIONS!!!!! Students will focus on equivalent fractions and comparing fractions.

Literacy- Please continue to  dialogue with your child about their class novels. The Anchor text for the week is “ Harvesting Hope”. Pg, 479”   4th graders will continue to identify the Climax in a story. students will identify the turning points in their novels along with the rising and falling action. We continue identifying various types of figurative language.

Writing: ThinkCerca 4th graders from Room 206 are now on and rocking with ThinkCerca!!!!  Think Cerca is a web-based curriculum  that gives students the opportunity develop and build upon critical thinking strategies in both reading and writing. Students completed their first submission. All submissions should be submitted by 2/24- Discuss with your child…”What type of learner they are.”

Science- Students will complete their Animal or Cell Model. 4th graders will begin to look at Ecosystems.

Social Studies- Students will further investigate the West Region of the United States. Students will also begin to look at the 4 states in the Southwest Region. We will also be looking at various time zones in the United States.

Please be aware that homework is to be completed nightly. This weeks Tic-Tac-Toe Literacy Assignments will be due Monday February 23, 2015  . All Math Study Links will be due Friday, February 20, 2015. Please make certain students have school supplies. Many students are not bringing in pencils, markers/colors pencils or scissors. These are supplies we use on a weekly basis. Also, we are still  in need of play-doe this week for a special project! We also need boxes of Kleenex and lined notebook paper. Please donate.

Literacy- Please dialogue with your child about their novels. The Anchor text for the week is “The Moon Runner ””. Pg, 455”      4th graders will be introduced to the Climax in a story. students will identify the turning points in their novels. . We continue identifying various types of figurative language, this week we will focus on hyperbole.

Writing: ThinkCerca 4th graders from Room 206 are now on and rocking with ThinkCerca!!!!  Think Cerca is a web-based curriculum  that gives students the opportunity develop and build upon critical thinking strategies in both reading and writing.

Science- Students will further explore the differences and similarities between plant and Animal cells.

Social Studies- Students will further investigate the West Region of the United States. Students will identify each of the 11 states and their capitals on a map. Students will also learn to make generalizations with informational text.

Literacy- 4th graders have been reading their new classroom novels. Please dialogue with your child about their novels. The Anchor text for the week is “The Right Dog for the Job””. Pg, 431” 4th graders will continue to identify main idea and detail and also examine the time and order when events take place (sequencing). We continue identifying various types of figurative language, this week we will focus on hyperbole. Ask your child to give an example of at least three types of figurative language.
