Weekly Objectives

Math- This week in Math we will begin Unit 3. The Unit 2 exam will be on Wednesday. On the test students have an option on using the Trade First Method vs. Partial Difference to solve 3 digit subtraction problems. We will begin working on strategies for solving multiplication facts. Please practice multiplication facts with your children. Many of the students are not firm on the facts and need a lot of practice. Students are not studying their facts nightly. Therefore, if  a student did not pass last weeks test the are required to write their math facts 3 times each nightly. Those facts are due the very next day, not Friday (example: 3X0=0 to 3X12=36). Students will be notified on Tuesday which facts they need to work on.

Literacy- This week in Language Arts we will be reading realistic fiction. This week for homework, read Coming Distractions”. Students will be continue reading their novels for small group. This week students will recognize fact and opinion relationships in text.

Writing– This week in Writer’s Workshop we continue working on our personal narrative stories.

Social Studies: While reading informational text, students will identify main idea and supporting details as well as using context clues to identify any unfamiliar words.

Science- Students will continue studying the process of proposing and testing hypothesis (Scientific Method). We will begin discussing experiments that are of interest to them in preparation for our classroom science fair in December.
